BEFORE
INSTALLATION
1. First choose the best location: try to
place the MBS and the fresh air supply as far away from each other as
possible. In other words If your MBS is in one corner of the basement, the
fresh air supply should be as close to the opposite corner as possible to draw
fresh air across the greatest area of the basement. You will need a minimum of
80 sq.in. of air flow from the first floor to the basement or crawlspace. This
can be achieved by: leaving the basement door open; trimming 2.5 inches off the
bottom of the basement door; or installing an 8x10" floor grill ( if you prefer
you may use two 4x10" grills).
Note: Be sure the distance between the
back of the MBS and your
exterior wall is less than 24 inches (2 feet).
2. In choosing a location for the MBS look for an outside basement wall that has no obstructions on the
exterior of the dwelling. Decks, attached garages etc. Next locate a bay between
two floor joists that is free of pipes and HVAC ductwork. If pipes, wires or
other hardware are running under the joists that is OK. The MBS can be
attached to the joists away from those obstructions.
Be sure air can flow freely between rooms in the basement through open doors or
install wall vents at floor level.

|
|
STEP 1.
Pull back the insulation. Check the height of the
floor joist to make sure it is higher than 6”. Mark the center of the height and
width between the floor joists.
|
 |
|
|
STEP 2.
A. From the inside,
drill a pilot hole to the outside using the center
mark. Make sure your drill is level and at a 90 degree angle to the joists.
Note: If
you have a finished ceiling cut a 8.5" x8.5" opening between the floor joists
and then proceed with the necessary steps to drill your
6¼"
hole.
B. From the outside,
cut a
6¼"
hole from the outside using your pilot hole as your center mark. You can use a
reciprocating saw or a
6¼"
hole saw.

STEP 3.
Screw the anchor brackets
provided, to the unit
|
 |
|
|
STEP 4.
Screw the 6" beaded pipe
provided to the exhaust flex pipe. Use duct tape for an
air tight seam.
|

 |
|
|
STEP 5.
Lifting the unit in place,
slide the exhaust duct out through the
6¼" hole and fasten
the unit to the floor joists. Leave a space between the
unit and the floor joist to avoid vibrations. |
 |
|
|
STEP 6.
From the outside, fit the
exhaust vent to the 6" pipe and secure to the building
with the provided screws. |
 |
|
|
STEP 7.
Plug the unit in. |
 |
|
|
STEP 8.
Turn the unit on by selecting
the SUMMER or WINTER setting. |
